Holiday Conditions
From the West Kootneys to the Rockies it's not yet a dream season. Snow pillow data, Alberta seems to be flirting with the bottom quartile. As expected things in BC are a little tastier.
We skied five days in Salmo over the holidays from Dec 25-29 with a few days outside WH20 and a couple in the pass. The snowpack was far from fat and with tricky avalanche conditions it wasn't the white Christmas that dreams are made of. Hopefully the heavy snowfall in the first week of 2015 will heal all the blemeshis left by temperature swings and drought in2014.
On the Alberta side of the boarder for the New Year conditions were somewhat more stable, but the snowpack is dissapointingly thin. Strong winds took what little snow there was away leaving only rock in many places. Wind Slab and sastrugi were easy to find... good skiing snow less common.
Welcome to 2015... Sacrifice whatever you need to for SNOW!
