Fairy Meadows Ski Week: April 27 - May 4, 2013
Fairy Meadows served up the goods in a big way for us! Our group of twelve assimilated two others in a Borg-like fashion for a fantastic week of ski touring. The weather kept us from flying in on Saturday. We were dissappointed to not get in, but encouraged by reports that it was snowing hard at the Bill Putnam Hut. We spent most of Sunday waiting for the weather to cooperate, and finally got an opening late Sunday afternoon. Alpine Helicopters brought in the big 212 to expedite things, and suddenly there we were!
Hanging out on the mud flats of Kinbasket!
There had been about 75 cm of new snow that was well bonded to the firm spring surface beneath it, and it was still coming down! Our first descent from Friendship Col was blower powder face shots! As the week progressed it got a little denser, but even after some really warm sunny days (and sun burnt lips!) it was still soft on protected north facing slopes. Not a bad turn the entire trip! Our group managed to summit on Sentinel, Pioneer, Enterprise, Colossal, Sir Williams, Fria, Damon and Pythias. A fantastic week of great ski touring!
