Nov in the Monashees
Just opened Sol Mountain Lodge. Below average snowpack of 125 cm when we arrived Nov 22. 100 cm of new snow since then, now 170 cm which is more average. Decent coverage down to 1700m. Snowpack below treeline is unconsolidated and punchy - normal early season hazards (logs, brush, creeks, out of control skiers trying to be like Chris Ruebens!). Webcam is online.
New snow was reactive to skiers yesterday and failing naturally to sz 1.
Main concern is continued load on Nov 7 crust with overlying facets and surface hoar down 100 cm. Getting lots of whumps in normal locations (flats, creek draws). Expecting a good natural cycle with warm storm forecast for Wedn.
Winter is here! Pic - skiing yesterday in Baldurzone was deep, light, and fun. There was a black bear spotted - he did not seem so happy about the deep Monashee pow. Silly bear!
