Sol Mountain Monashees Update
Sol Mountain lodge opened November 21 for the winter season.
Check out our updated website http://www.solmountain.com including a Daily Conditions Report and webcam.
On opening day the snowpack was 160 cm at the lodge and very well consolidated with no significant concerns, and good coverage above 1700m. It was a great week of skiing with January like conditions. We hit some great alpine zones on Fosthall and Mt Baldur and got to shred Funky Chicken and the Baldurzone. A week of dry weather November 24 to December 2 formed a widespread layer of surface hoar from creek bottoms to treeline, facets in the alpine, sun crust on south aspects, and exposed November 13 crust in scoured locations. This December 2 weak layer is now covered by up to 30 cm of storm snow – just a matter of load before it becomes reactive. Best we can hope for is rapid loading and a widespread avalanche cycle to flush it out. Judging by the forecast for the weekend we may just get the flush we need!
We do have AST courses scheduled at the lodge with space in January. Check our website for details.
Winter is here!
