Red Mountain NEW backcountry Terrain + Hut
We have the inside word on some exciting news out of Red Mountain today – Red will be offering a new backcountry hut and new backcountry skiing terrain this season. The details are in their media kit which can be found here, or the short version is below:
NEW – Alpine Glory Hut:
RED will be offering overnight backcountry guided tours from the top of Granite to a newly erected yurt called the Alpine Glory Hut. Located on a ridge on Kirkup Mountain, the edge of RED’s controlled recreational area, the Alpine Glory Hut will attract overnight and day tours lead by highly accredited local alpine guide Harry Allard. This hut will be a unique opportunity for guests to enjoy more intimate powder skiing or boarding in the comforts of a cozy back country facility.
NEW – Back country terrain:
RED is expanding its skiable terrain by over 300 acres by cutting new glades on Grey Mountain. Glading and tree thinning will commence on September 22, 2010 and will be completed in time for the upcoming ski season. Referred to as “slack country” terrain, this easily accessed terrain will also offer easy to ski-out, since the runs direct you back to RED’s lift-assisted terrain. Located adjacent to RED’s existing ski area, Grey is accessible o the summit of RED’s Granite Mountain with a 20 minute skin or snowshoe on the up-track. Grey’s beautiful south facing slopes offer over 2,200 feet of consistent vertical drop ideal for intermediate to expert powder skiers and riders. All skiers and riders accessing Grey will be required to be equipped for back country touring with avalanche transceivers, probes and shovels and a ‘buddy’.
