Avalanche Conditions Report #5
In episode of 5 of the Avalanche Conditions Report by Whitewater Ski Resort, Dave from Snow Safety takes us through what’s been going on in and around the area. Despite clouds in town, it looks like beautiful blue skies and great weather for skiing. For the first time since Dec 7, AvCan has dropped the hazard rating to 3x LOW!Last week’s storm fell on the Jan 14 melt-freeze crust with surface hoar, producing a widespread avalanche cycle with crowns in the 15-25cm range. However, we haven’t seen much avalanche activity in the area since then. The big story now is the solar input on certain aspects, but good skiing still remains on north faces.
There is still some concern regarding the Dec 4 persistent slab problem. Even though we haven’t seen much avalanche activity on this layer for a couple weeks, there have been some big avalanches in the Revelstoke region.
There are 5-10cms of snow in the forecast for Sunday and Monday, which should reset skiing conditions.
