Avalanche Conditions Report 5: When the wind blows
Check out this weeks avalanche conditions report video with Whitewater Ski Resort's Avalanche Forecaster Wren McElroy and find out about the latest conditions in the backcountry before you head out. After 50+cms of blower storm snow skiing the conditions have changed with two days of moderate to strong South Easterly winds. Exposed features in the alpine and treeline have developed a new storm slab. On Thursday a skier triggered a 1.5 slab avalanche in Ymir Bowl outside the ski area boundary with up to 30cm crowns on a steep convex feature at 1975m on a NW aspect. The winds were very strong overnight and may have blown most of the snow out of the alpine and treeline features may have a more reactive slab.
