Avalanche Conditions Report 4 VIDEO
In the latest Avalanche Conditions Report Video, Dave, who is part of the Snow Safety Team at Whitewater Ski resort discusses the current snowpack layers why the persistent weak layer lower in the snowpack is still something to be concerned with. These layers include the Jan 14th melt/freeze crust, the Jan 3rd surface hoar and the Dec 26th melt/freeze crust which is 4-6cm and down 80cm. Below this you’ll find the Dec 17th surface hoar and below this is the Nov 17th surface hoar with the Nov 5th melt/freeze crust below this and faucets above, all of this sits down 130-140cm.Be aware of the instability which persists low in the snowpack and choose your terrain wisely, avoiding shallow rocky start zones. Be cautious out there and remain diligent, this is still not the time to be stepping out.
