Avalanche Conditions Report #4 - VIDEO
Finally the return (or start!) of winter!Over the past 5 days we have seen 70cm of snow fall which has also increased the avalanche hazard to CONSIDERABLE for really the first time this season. The storm came in with strong winds from the South and loaded start zones with a new storm slab. This slab was reactive with natural and skier triggered avalanches to size 2.5.
A skier triggered avalanche in Goats Slide just outside the Whitewater Ski Resort boundary seriously injured one person. This avalanche was only 150m from the ski area boundary where numerous people with no avalanche gear typically ski. It is important to remember that once you cross the ski area boundary you are in the backcountry and responsible for your own safety. Be prepared, have the gear and training!
Very cold temperatures are forecast for the next week. Be prepared to adjust your touring plans accordingly.
