Avalanche Conditions Report Jan 19 2017
After two months of "cold" temps in the Kootenays we have just had our first normal storm cycle depositing 40+ cms. This makes for great skiing, and has also increased the load on the weak layers. Today's avalanche control produced size 1-2 slab avalanches with 40-50 cms crowns.
Avalanche hazard is considerable and should be treated with extra caution. Pick your terrain wisely as many areas have thin shallow/weak spots that may be easy to trigger.
