CAC High Rating + Three avalanche deaths = Caution
The Canadian Avalanche Centre has had a "HIGH" rating for most of the province all weekend and it has proven to be a fatal three days in BC and Alberta. There is one confirmed avalanche fatality near Nelson BC and two in the Alberta Rockies, as well as an inbounds avalanche at Fernie Ski Resort with 7 people caught.
With the recent warm cycle that hit most of the province over the weekend and the "HIGH" CAC avi rating - this is time to reconsider heading out into the backcountry and taking unnecessary risks. We are saddened to hear of the recent tragedies and hope that everyone pays close attention to the CAC avi ratings, weather and has the required knowledge to venture out into the mountains and remain safe - take a course or hire a guide.
Be safe.
