CAC using facebook & twitter to keep you in the know
Avalanche warnings are coming to a tweet near you.
The Canadian Avalanche Centre, which this past weekend activated its online avalanche warning bulletin system and is awaiting the province's first snowpack, is moving to social networks to get out the warnings.
"We're using Twitter, Face-book and RSS," said Ilya Storm, an avalanche forecaster with the centre in Revelstoke.
"The website is just there and people have to come to us. But with tweeting and RSS feeds, we will push it out to them."
The centre is also encouraging backcountry adventurers to help them track danger in areas where there is cellular coverage.
"Send us a photo and tell us what you're seeing, the conditions and the close calls," said Storm.
