Spring Skiing
Ski resorts are starting to close their lifts and operations this month, but this will not keep the die-hard recreationalists from continuing to find a way to make turns. Spring skiing is all time with sunny skies and corn snow, but hazards still present themselves in the wake of a quickly melting snowpack. Cornices are starting to weaken and let go from their mountain ridgelines and can roll a long way down slope. Skiing inbounds at ski resorts that have closed can present many dangers as well as machines continue to operate around the mountain preparing roads for summer work. Cut roads aren’t marked, lift towers and power poles have had their padding removed, and bamboo rope lines have been taken down and much avalanche control has ceased. Remember to take care and have fun in your pursuit of the perfect spring turns, and keep stacking this seasons ski days.
