Alpine to Paddle: A great shoulder season adventure in Whistler
It's October. Not quite time for skiing and kind of past the best time for big hikes. Here are a few pictures of a fun answer of what to do for an adventure in shoulder season.
My friend and I decided to head up Whistler mountain and take the Peak to Peak across to Blackcomb to have a look at all the new snow. It was a beautiful day - warm, sunny, and fresh pow everywhere. Looks like a great start to ski season up there...
Above is Mt Fee, a strange and beautiful looking mountain just south of Whistler. With the new snow it looked extra spectacular. The second phase of Girls Day was about to take place over in that direction, at Callaghan Lake. We got off the moutain, back into the truck, and headed south for an afternoon of paddling.
I had so much fun on our peak to lake adventure.. Callaghan Lake was as beautiful as ever, with perfect views of the Black Tusk, Mt Garibaldi, Castle Towers, and all the glaciers near Brandywine. These photos do no justice to how incredible the scenery was.. I kept stopping to stare at it.
We were the only people out that day, it was mild (although we still had toques and puffys) and I really did not want to leave.
If you're looking for something fun to do around Whistler before the ski hill opens, get out on the water, it's the perfect shoulder season adventure.
