Beautiful day at the Wedge Ice Cave, Whistler
Sometimes the best stuff is right in your own back yard.
I took a few days off last week and decided to stay in the area + enjoy the last bits of summer. I had a great day at Garibaldi Lake, a couple of days of camping at Semaphore Lakes, some scrambling, and this amazing hike up to Wedgemount Lake.
This is a steep rugged trail that burns up your lungs and busts up your knees, but it is so worth it!!! Even though it's right near Whistler you feel like you're on an expedition somewhere far away. It's usually uncrowded and always incredibly beautiful. This is a good base for a few days if you want to climb Wedge, Weart, Rethel, Parkhurst or Cook. You are guaranteed to have an epic tent site at the very least.
It feels a bit weird to post a BW picture when this lake is such an amazing color, but here's one anyhow, looking back from the glacier.
If you keep going past the camping sites + hut, along the left side of the lake, a trail will take you up to the toe of the glacier. There is an amazing waterfall coming off the ice this year where the glacier is breaking apart on the right, and a couple of ice caves.
I have been here a lot, but every time the scenery just knocks me over. Go see for yourself!
