COMP-Spearhead traverse December
We took advantage of another sunny day, and a full moon night to complete the spearhead traverse. We have had a lot of sunny days with (Drycember) a high pressure parked over the coast range of BC. The conditions were firm and hard. Great time do do some classic traverses and go fast and light. We haven't done this traverse this early in the season with this little base. The base on Blackcomb Mid Mountain sits at 98cm. We had the advantage of a huge snow pack from last winter and a lot of early season snow came in wet. This helped in covering up crevasses, and bergschrunds. We still had some issues with lack of snow, including rappels, and boot packs. The highlight was some full moon glacier skiing. We found some descent snow on the descent of Whirlwind Glacier. In addition to great views it was a great way to get in shape for the winter
