Fissile: A long day but a great day!
Yesterday marked the end of a 4 week stretch of sun for the coast, highly unusual for a west coast winter. It was downright balmy in the alpine, with extreme temperature inversions, followed by a week -30.
Under sunny skies, it was a good time to go for a nice long tour out to Fissile. If you've been to Whistler and looked over at the area between Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, you would have seen a distinctive triangular shaped mountain - this is Fissile.
With a pass or a backcountry ticket, taking the gondola up gives a good head start on the day.
The route follows a beautiful series of small rolling summits called the Musical Bumps. The day's goal was the Saddle Chute, a fun steep run down Fissile. Not much snow this year!
It's a really long day for about 4 turns, but so worth it. The ski out was super icy down Singing Pass. With the new snow this week (expected 50cm) this should improve.
