Mt Currie 3+ avalanche
Even though it is summer it doesn't mean that avalanches aren't possible, a recent observation from dave Sarkany on the coast proves that you need to keep your spidey senses on high alert:
I was in the Pemberton area today and thought it news worthy to mention that size 3+ slab recently pulled out of the NW Face of Mt Currie. It left a dramatic 2m+ deep fracture line that propagates a few hundred meter across a basin. The high point of the crown line is around 7500 feet. Looks like the avalanche ran almost full path well into the trees. I’m not sure about the timing of this slide, but the word on the street is yesterday. I was at this elevation south of Pemberton yesterday the air temp was around 0c and it even snowed for a short while. I think it is safe to say we usually don’t see slab avalanches this size around here after mid June.
