About the Coldsmoke Powderfest:
The Coldsmoke event was created to provide an authentic gathering of skiers, snowboarders and telemarkers—of any and all skill level—with a passion to broaden their experience not only in the backcountry but also on Whitewater’s world-renowned snow, all while celebrating the Kootenay’s famous local culture beneath a breathtak-ing backdrop.
This weekend’s three-day event offers participants all sorts of in-bounds and out-of-bounds opportunities: you can give a variety of off-piste adventures a try, learn important new skills in any of over a dozen courses, hang out with big mountain legends like Greg Hill and Eric Pehota, and compete in events including the ROAM Randonee Rally (a recreational ski mountaineering
competition), the Valhalla Pure Slopestyle Competition (held on true supernatural-style terrain), the Backcountry Olympics (where you can showcase your survival and backcountry cooking skills) or the Poker Run with a Race Twist (where a hand of cards is played around the mountain…in between runs and fun.)
True to the resort’s penchant for legendary Canadiana culture and home grown hospitality, there’ll be ample opportunity for cheers at Friday night’s Coldsmokin’ BQQ Social and Film Fest and Saturday night’s Kootenay Coldsmoke Buff-EH and Hootenanny After Party.
Also, many of the backcountry industry’s best brands will be represented at the Mountain Village, with lots of demo equipment to try, and all sorts of wares on display and for purchase courtesy Nelson’s many local artisans.
