5.11 Tactical or just 5.11 as it is more commonly referred to (not to be confused with climbing and biking brand Five Ten), is an American apparel brand that designed and manufactures outdoor clothing, footwear, uniforms, and tactical equipment. Their custom adaptive shape or C.A.S. allows you to specifically adapt to the Magma to your unique foot shape to help reduce the normal break-in time which increases comfort and decreases blistering and lack of precision. The Magma comes with a pre-moulded cushioned EVA footbed that is the secret to their great fit which typically quires no customization. Sea To Summit Telos TR2 Tent
Sea To Summit has always been one of our favourite gear brands and for good reason, they always produce game-changing gear that is built to last and of the highest quality. The new Sea To Summit Telos TR2 Tent is no exception as it’s a very well-thought-out design and is loaded with features. Sea To Summit took what everyone knows a two-person freestanding tent to be and then brought that to the next level. The Telos TR2 Tent is an ultralight backpacking tent weighing in at just 1.67kg / 3lb 11oz but can be reduced to a scant 1.2kg / 2lb 10.3oz if you ditch just the rain fly and footprint; or even lighter still with just the fly in what Sea To Summit calls the “Hangout mode”. This creates a semi-open sun shelter ideal for taking respite from the sun and uses two ordinary trekking poles and the Telos TR2 fly and pole set. The Telos TR2 Tent was also engineered to have the most available interior space to accommodate two people sitting up. Thanks to the Tension Ridge Architecture which uses upward sweeping poles to increase overall head and shoulder room, as well as higher doors, easier access and more usable vestibule space. In order to keep interior moisture at bay, the Telos TR2 Tent uses Sea To Summit’s Apex / Baseline Venting system. This is a high-mounted vent at the tent’s apex to allow warm, moist air to escape while channelling fresh air into the tent. The Baseline Vent allows you to control humidity in wet conditions by opening or closing the lower portion of the door. Splitting the Telos TR2 Tent’s weight amongst those in your party is easy thanks to Sea To Summit’s Fair-Share Storage system. The tent packs up into three individual stuff sacks to allow you to split the load easily with two stuff sacks transforming into gear storage pockets and the pole stuff sack which has a translucent diffuser becomes a Lightbar with the addition of a headlamp. This helps effectively illuminate the inside of the tent without adding any additional weight. With two large D-shaped doors and two spacious vestibules, the Sea To Summit Telos TR2 Tent is easy to get in and out of, store your gear and has plenty of livable interior space. Its versatile design offers plenty of configuration options depending upon the weather and your adventure and you’ll always have plenty of airflow thanks to the Apex/Baseline vents. Garmin fēnix 7X Solar
Less than two years ago we profiled the Garmin fēnix 6X Solar and now Garmin has released their latest multisport GPS watch—the Garmin fēnix 7X Solar. Available in three sizes, the Fenix 7S (for small) has a 42mm diameter screen, the Fenix 7 is larger at 47mm and finally the Fenix 7X at 51mm. For each of these versions, there are also three editions: standard, solar, and sapphire solar which results in 16 possible combinations ranging in price from $899.99CAN / $699.99US to $1,129.99CAN / $999.99US. The Fenix 7 offers the latest in Garmin wearable technology with the sapphire edition being the most feature-rich, including not just the more durable sapphire glass but also multi bang GPS and more storage. We got to test out the Garmin fēnix 7X Solar which has a long list of upgrades (listed below) over the Fenix 6X. The most impressive new features have to be the touchscreen display which allows you to swipe and tap options directly on the screen but this can also be turned off if you prefer the typical Garmin five-button navigation system. In addition to this, there is now a flashlight built into the front edge of the fēnix 7X Solar which has white and red led lights that can be set to pulse or shine at different intensities. There is also a new and improved Gen 4 Elevate Optical heart rate sensor, Multi-band GPS, and improved battery life thanks to the larger more efficient solar panel located on the screens bevel. The Fenix 7X also now has access to all world maps for free and a new Ski View that shows ski resorts and run names across the world. If you want to customize your Fenix 7X you can now configure the Fenix 7X watch directly from the smartphone app and you can also download apps from the Garmin Connect IQ Store directly on the watch, no need to do this from the smartphone app any longer. The Fenix 6X was a very impressive multisport GPS watch and Garmin has only improved upon this in the latest Fenix 7X version. Now easier to use with more features and options the Fenix 7X just keeps getting better and better. This is why it’s been our watch of choice for backcountry skiing and summer adventure and it should be yours too.
