Sneak Peek: Atomic Hawx Prime XTD 130 Boots - VIDEO
Two years ago we reviewed the Atomic Hawx Ultra XTD 130 Boots and now for 2020, Atomic is about to release the new and improved Hawx Prime XTD 130 Boots. Like the Ultra, the Prime is a combination alpine and backcountry ski boot that can really do it all. The Atomic Hawx is one of the best selling lines of boots in the world which has helped Atomic become the number two boot manufacturer in the world.
Since the Hawx Prime is built off the success of the Hawx Ultra it uses the same Free/Lock ski and walk technology to provide a super stiff flex which also allows for 54° range of motion in walk mode while 130 flex rating means performance is optimal on the ski down.
The Hawx Prime will be available in a 130, 120, 110 and 100 flex version for men and a 115, 95 and 85 for women. There will also be three widths to fit any skiers foot, the Hawx Ultra which uses a 98mm last for a narrower fit, the Hawx Prime with its 100mm last for a medium fit and the Hawx Magna with a 102mm last for wider feet.
All of the Hawx Prime Platinum Boots will use Atomic’s new Mimic Liner which uses an anatomically pre-shaped heel and ankle area to comfortably secures the foot. The heel, ankle and tongue of the liner use a heat-mouldable material to provide a custom fit which hardens after heating to ’mimic’ the skier's foot. This process only takes 12 minutes in the cute Atomic ovens and can be repeated should you wish to make subtle changes after the initial fitting.
To further improve comfort, Atomic has placed Thinsulate insulation in the toe box of the boots and included insoles that are not flimsy pieces of cardboard but have actual shape to them.
Atomic’s boot philosophy is pretty simple it’s based on three main points, Fit, Comfort and Performance and each of these can be found in the new Atomic Hawx Prime Boots.
I just spent two days skiing in the new Atomic Hawx Prime XTD 130 Boots in and out of bounds at Solitude Resort in the Wasatch Mountains near Salt Lake City Utah and I was thoroughly impressed by the comfort and performance. If you are looking for an all-mountain touring boot that can crush the resort and still be light and comfortable to put in backcountry laps then this is the ONE boot for you.
