Best New Winter/Fall Gear From Haglöfs

Haglöfs origin story is that of a Swedish carpenter, Wiktor Haglöf, who was determined to make a better backpack. Over 100 years later the company now offers a variety of products designed to perform in the great outdoors. Their offerings include baselayers, casual wear, footwear, technical jackets and pants, accessories, sleeping bags, and yes, they still make backpacks.

We’ve taken a look at the fall and winter lineup and picked a few of our favourite items. Haglöfs L.I.M series draws from the “less is more” ethos. All products in the range keep weight to a minimum but without sacrificing performance or durability.  These garments are also available in women’s versions.
      Haglofs LIM Jacket
A lifestyle jacket with a minimalist design created for hiking and other outdoor pursuits. The LIM Jacket is ultra-light and packs down incredibly small but doesn’t skip out on any key features.

The LIM Breathe GTX is made with GORE-TEX Paclite PLUS, a super-light 2.5-layer fabric. The carbon fibre reinforced Paclite PLUS negates the use of a liner thus lowering the weight without sacrificing comfort. Thoughtful design leads to no seams on the shoulders, sides, or inside sleeves in order to avoid chaffing and increase durability.

      Haglofs LIM Jacket

      Materials:
      GORE-TEX 2.5L Paclite PLUS; 100% polyamide, 20D, matt mini ripstop, 74g/m²

      Specs:
      Price: $450CAN / $320US
      Weight: 230g / 8oz
      Machine washable: yes
      Water column: >28k
      RET: <6
      Haglofs LIM Mimic Hood
The L.I.M Mimic Hood is Haglofs ultimate lightweight insulating layer. This garment is designed for hiking, climbing, mountaineering, skiing, snowboarding, and touring.

Using Mimic Platinum Synthetic Fill, the Mimic heats up quickly and retains heat for longer. This proprietary insulation infuses recycled polyester with graphene which enhances the insulative properties creating light and airy fibre cluster insulation that feels similar to down.

The shell material is 100% recycled 10D polyamide that features mini-ripstop, and the entire jacket can be packed into its own pocket. It’s also coated with a fluorocarbon-free DWR so you can feel a bit better about what’s keeping you dry.

      Haglofs LIM Mimic Hood

      Materials:
      100% recycle polyamide, 10D down-resistant mini-ripstop
Mimic PLATINUM Ultracluster Graphene with recycled polyester

      Specs:
      Price: $400CAN / $280US
      Weight: 335g / 11.8oz
      Machine washable: yes
Haglofs LIM Breathe GTX Shakedry Jacket
The L.I.M Shakedry jacket is designed for those activities that see elevated heart rates, offering world-class breathability without sacrificing waterproofing.

This jacket uses GORE-TEX Shakedry, a 2 layer fabric that eliminates the outer face fabric in order to save weight. This fabric is completely windproof yet is the most breathable of GORE-TEX materials, while still maintaining the Guaranteed To Keep You Dry promise. With the hydrophobic membrane on the exterior of the jacket, water beads up and rolls off the jacket; when the rain stops, simply shake the remaining water off the garment.

This is combined with GORE-TEX Active 3L tech: a lightweight super-breathable ripstop fabric with 13D yarn and C-Knitted lining to give you the best protection possible.

Haglofs LIM Breathe GTX Shakedry Jacket

      Materials:
      GORE-TEX 2L with SHAKEDRY; 100% polyamide, 64g/m²
      GORE-TEX Active 3L w C-Knit; nylon sip-stop, 13D, 74g/m²

      Specs:
      Price: $600 / $450
      Weight: 204g / 7.2 oz
      Machine washable: yes
      Water column: >28,000mm
      RET: <4 (Shakedry), <3.5 (Active 3L)
      Haglofs Rugged Mountain Pant
Aptly named, the Rugged Mountain Pant is designed for hiking, climbing, and mountaineering. The pant is extremely durable, featuring triple stitching on main seams and double stitching elsewhere with a hardwearing stretch polyamide weave. Reinforcements in the seat and knees feature 4-way stretch while reinforcement at the lower leg insteps are made from a 500D polyamide with a single-layer PU coating. The entire garment is treated with a fluorocarbon-free DWR.

Ready for the mountains, these pants are loaded with features like zippered ventilation at the thighs, 5 pockets (one of which is zippered), gaiter hooks and buckles, and adjustable velcro straps.

If all that isn’t enough, the pants are bluesign approved so you can feel good about how they came to be.

      Haglofs Rugged Mountain Pant

      Materials:
      Climatic; 95% polyamide, 5% elastane, 268g/m²
FlexAble; 89% polyamide, 11% elastane, with soft polyester next-to-skin backer, 293g/m²

      Specs:
      Price: $300CAN / $220US
      Weight: 800g / 28oz
      Machine washable: yes

      Haglofs Rugged Flex Pant
The Rugged Flex pant is a less aggressive pant than the Rugged Mountain Pant, aimed more a hiking and lifestyle use. The pants are still designed to be durable and robust but skip a few of the more technical features seen in the Rugged Mountain.

Durable polyamide stretch with FlexAble panels over the knees and seat for both protection and comfort, while flourocarbon-free DWR treatment helps keep things dry—and all materials used are bluesign approved.

On the fit side, the leg ends can be tightened up with velcro strap adjusters when a tighter fit is desired, say if you want to keep out dirt and dust on a hiking trail.
