Look out backcountry dude. The kids are coming!!
The Revolution has begun and you can't stop it. You don't want to stop it because like most revolutions it starts off as a good idea based on a need to do something better....something right!!Super Star skiers like Mark Abma, Chris Rubens, and Eric Hjorleifson first gained attention on various lift serviced ski hills sprinkled thoughout Western Canada. Eager to take their stuff to the next level they ducked the rope and began throwing huge air and launching big plumb lines. When these guys began poking their nose in the backcountry they brought that heavy gear with them.
They needed that kind of gear to charge hard down big Backcountry zones but dragging that stuff back up to the drop in zone was hard work. Advances in boot tech, skis and skins kept pace with the big lines but they pale in comparison with what's happening in the oft neglected binding department.
As Eric Hjorleifson put it in his recent blog " This trip (MSP/Powder Mag Jan 2010) was an excellent trial run on my new Dynafit boot/binding set up. Everyone including myself was blown away by the Dynafit's performance. I skied the Dynafit set up hard and had no problems with binding retention. A light weight bomber touring setup that is strong enough to huck and charge on, the future is NOW"
Here's to the future!!
