You Shall Not Pass Without A Permit

There are two types of people in the backcountry skiing world. People who will ski in Rogers Pass this winter and people who wish they were skiing Rogers Pass this winter.
 

If you find yourself in the first group of people then the information below is for you, if you are in the second group, more powder for me. Whether you are planning your first trip or the pass is your backyard you will need a permit to ski the area. The permit system is in place to allow skiing to take place in areas that see avalanche control throughout the winter season. The Canadian military controls the slopes that threaten the highway using howizters and howitzers are dangerous, that's why they use them in wars.  The whole permit system is in place to keep backcountry skiers out of harm's way while simultaneously keeping the general public on the road safe from natural avalanches.  It would be a whole lot simpler to shut down any control slope to the public than it is to have a permit system like the one we currently have in place. This entire system is reliant on user compliance and non-compliance has led to temporary closures. Further non-compliance will lead to permanent closures.  So now that we understand why it's important to get a permit and play by the rules now you need to know where and how to get one.
