Avalanche Conditions Report: Things go BANG!
Helicopter explosives were used to control the potential danger in Ymir Bowl today and you can see the results in the following video. While things didn't go quite as big as a few weeks ago there were still some spectacular results in Hummer Chutes. The most recent 20-30cms storm snow was reacting to the heli-bombing, so don't let these sunny days and the multitude of tracks in the bowl convince you otherwise. Do your homework and play it cautiously out there.
Take a look at the results of today's avalanche control work in the video below and listen to Whitewater Avalanche Forecaster Wren McElroy talk about this week's concerns in the snowpack.
The 11th annual Kootenay Coldsmoke Powder Festival is also going off this weekend at Whitewater Ski Resort so be sure to check it out. Backcountry Skiing Canada is a sponsor of the event and will have a tent in the village where we'll be giving away $3,500 in prizes as well as plenty of Schwag.
