Sneak Peek: Black Diamond Helio Skis - VIDEO
Black Diamond had a number of major new gear announcements at Winter Outdoor Retailer in Denver this winter. Amongst them, the news of the Black Diamond Guide BT and Recon BT Transceivers as well as the addition to their binding line up of a pure tech binding called the Helio Bindings. While the Helio Skis are not new, they are updating the entire series for next season and adding a 76mm width. This means that there will now be six widths to choose from: 116, 105, 95, 88 and 76mm.
Black Diamond’s ski Line up also consists of the Boundary Pro series, which is aimed at Freeride skiers (read the Black Diamond Boundary Pro 107 review here) and the Route skis which are geared more towards the general touring audience. The Helio skis are Black Diamond’s lightest skis in their line up thanks to their Carbon fibre and Blasa Flax Core construction. Just to illustrate this point the Helio 105’s weigh in at just under 7lb per pair. The entire Helio line also have early rise in the tips and tails, 5 mm beveled ABS sidewalls and ABS tail protectors with integrated skin-clip tabs. The all new Helio slkis will be available for the 2018/19 season.
