An American Ascent; free screening of the documentary
Thursday, July 29th, 2020 marks the 56th anniversary of the first ascent of Denali by Charles Madison Crenshaw. Charles was not only the first black man to have made the summit, but he did so just one week after the Civil Right Act of 1964 was signed into law.His party was the single largest group to have ever made the summit, and also included the largest number of women to reach the summit in a single party.
In 2013, the first all African American team of climbers, inspired by Charles Madison Crenshaw, made an attempt on Denali. The documentary "An American Ascent" follows their story and is being offered for free in celebration of Crenshaw's Denali Anniversary.
