Proposed pistol and rifle range expansion threatens popular bouldering area
A proposed expansion to an existing pistol and rifle range may threaten access to, and the use of, a popular climbing spot in the Arrow Lakes area. The existing shooting range has existed in the area for a number of decades but it's permitting has recently expired. While applying for a new tenure, the Castlegar Wildlife Association has proposed an expansion to the range which adds an additional shooting gallery.
The conflict arises because a popular bouldering area exists just outside of the proposed tenure and some of the more popular boulders are in line with the proposed shooting gallery. The fear is that this will render these climbing spots unusable and potentially remove access to the rest of the climbing area.
