COMP - Split-tripping the Coquihalla
So it's 2013, time to try something new. We have been going into the back country for years, sometimes just to snowshoe, sometimes lugging our boards along on our backs so we could get some turns on the way down. This year we decided to get splitboards, but the price of them was unjustifiable, so we made our own.
I know, that is a frightening picture, but they turned out really well! We've even ridden them at resorts just to test their stability on groomers, no complaints. Fast as ever.
In the past, our attention has been focused on the mountains in and around Chilliwack, but this year, along with a new mode of transport, we decided to explore the Coquihalla area.
We checked out Thar, and it was spectacu-laar!
Then we investigated Nak, and we'll be back! (see what I did there?)
Makes me feel tiny.
We also did some exploring on Henning, which was good fun. These couple of months of 2013 have been a blast, with much more to come.
There is nothing that can compare to the stillness and harmony you find in the back country. Nothing else matters out there. The most important thing, the only thing that matters, are the friends you are with. Whatever is happening in your life just fades away, turns into silence, and I think we could all use a bit more silence.
Most of our days end by driving home into the fiery sunset, with our eyes glazed over, out of focus, reliving the day.
