Soap Box Comp: \"Just Getting Started\"
Well, its early January 2014 and winter recently returned to the Coast Mountains.
I regularly find myself "surfing" the web for new equipment and early season excitement at the start of winter, but this year the stoke has been a little quiet due to the lack of signifigant snowfall…until now!
I just had my first "good" day of Powder skiing, and I discovered the SOAP BOX COMP just days after. The excitement surrounding the possibility of winning gear and the forecast for more snow has me stoking the coals and dreaming of 5:30am alarm bells.
This winter is starting out just like a spring ski tour on the coast: we just need to walk for a long time on logging roads, through alder covered avalanche paths, over deadfall, and across streams. And eventually, if we perservere and keep our frustrations at bay we will reap the FREEDOM that Backcountry Skiing in Canada provides.
The photo below was taken in the North Joffre Creek Valley north of Pemberton BC. and it marks the approximate location where we, and many others, leave the logging roads in search of cold snow in the basins surrounding Saxifrage Peak. However…persistence is required.
I'll step off the soap box……for now.
