South America gets hit by a huge snow storm
Winter may have been taking its time to get to Chile and Argentina but after this weekend things are looking pretty good. A massive snow storm dumped anywhere from 25” at El Colorado to the 9’ reported at Paso Libertadoes which is about 3 miles from Portillo Ski Resort. Las Lenas was the ski resort that received the most snow with 45” reported. By this weekend, all ski areas in South America will be up and running for the 2015 ski season. It’s a late start, but things are looking good and long term forecast still show above average precipitation expected for July-September.

Las Lenas, Argentina: 45 inches at the base and lots more up top.
Ski Portillo, Chile: 43 inches in 48 hours and 66 inches of snow in the last 7 days. They are planning on opening on Saturday, July 18.
El Colorado, Chile: 25 inches
La Parva, Chile: 27 inches
Valle Nevado, Chile: 31 inches, opening day is set for July 18.
