Winter is here to stay!
From Nelson there is not really any snow visible in the mountains and it feels like winter may still be a few weeks away but after a recent hike up Alps Alturas, I now know better. Sunday’s hike unveiled the snow line at 6,000’, all be it minimal and wet. However, after a few hours of hiking and reaching a height of ‘ there was over 10cm of light fluffy snow on the ground and more falling throughout the day. With temps below zero degrees celsius and winds to back things up it sure did feel like winter in the mountains.(click the images for a larger view)
The forecast this week calls for highs in Nelson of 10 – 14°C and plenty of moisture so I think it’s safe to say that those 10 ceni’s we enjoyed on Sunday are to be the beginning of this years base. Bring it on!
Anyone else been up high and found winter?
It doesn't get much better than this.
