COMP- Heli drop on Rethel.
One could easily feel sorry for Rethel Mountain. Sitting in the shadow of the great monstrosities of Wedge and Weart, most people would hardly give it a second thought. Viewed from Blackcomb or adjacent slackcountry Rethel appears to be a plain, featureless summit with a wind scoured south face. But hike the Wedgemont Lake trail in early summer and Rethel will reveal to you a handful of steep and technical north facing lines, and with a sneaky heli drop from Blackcomb Aviation you can bag several of these lines in a single day and be back in the village before dinner time.
Some of these lines are not to be taken lightly. Steep and narrow, with mandatory rappels, you'll want an experienced crew with you to watch your back. But in the right conditions Rethel can easily offer you lines to rival those found on its more famous neighbours.
