A Metre of new snow for the Duffy Lake Road
Sea to Sky received nearly a metre of fresh pow over the weekend, so we headed up to the Joffre shoulder to play around in the snow a bit. Avalanche conditions were rated high in the alpine so we found some pillows lower down and didn't go any higher.
Below - so good to see winter starting finally!! The skin track was pretty deep - you can see the dog's ears poking out on the right.
Usually this field is one smooth ride, but this year it still looks a lot like a boulder field. Despite the welcome sight of new snow, there's still WAY less snow out there than usual.
In the trees there's about a metre or more of light fluff on top of the forest floor, so if you punch through, you're going to find yourself on top of logs, rocks, branches and dead fall.
Alpine temps are forecasted to rise to +9C by the end of the week, with freezing levels above 3000m. Hopefully old man winter shows up again after that to bring us more snow to shred.
