Duffy Pow stoke vid.
Skiing Pow with my room mate Runar in the Steep Creek area of the Duffy. It was a bit cloudy when we set off so I didn't bother with all the standard leaving the car and skinning up hill cut away shots.
This was probably one of the best days touring I have ever had. If the sun had been out all day (rather than being broken cloud) then it would have been untouchable.
The access to Steep Creek is super easy, there is a huge variety of terrain, and on the exit you pretty much ski right back to the car.
Pit results were around CTH 23 RP at 1900m, north aspect, but we didn't dare venture onto any of the really steep or exposed lines (although there were plenty to choose from!)
We skied off the NW shoulder of 2318 from about two thirds of the way up (the top looked rocky) then the mellow-ish basin skiers left of Steep peak, and finally Chute 56, north of the dome. Total day was 2000m of climbing, 19km and 9 hours car to car.
We could see lots of tracks from the day before (sunday) but it had snowed 8-10cm that night so there was still plenty of fresh. We met two kiwi guys who were camping out for 5 days. They were pretty much a lap a head of us all day. We didn't actually see them ski but they were slightly more ambitious with their terrain choices than us and put down some very smooth lines.
Steep Creek is my new favorite area in the Duffy (this was my first time) and I can't wait to go back.
