Hiking Mt Rohr
Mt Rohr is a great destination for ski touring, and in summer the area is just as spectacular for hiking. Just south of the salt shed at the top of the Duffy Lake Rd is a logging road that serves as the access point to Wendy Thompson Hut, Mt Rohr, and a number of other touring/hiking areas.
The picture above is of Rohr Lake. The trails winds along the shoreline, then ascends up above the lake, and onto the Rohr summit. The entire approach is scenic starting in a beautiful forest lower down, then passing through a beautiful meadow and over a boudler field to the lake. The mud is ankle/shin deep in a number of places.. bring gators!
After the lake, you'll find yourself in beautiful alpine terrain, with an epic view of Joffre to your right (below).
The hike up is an easy scramble, with just a few scree/talus sections, and this is what awaits you at the summit:
Duffy Lake is the bit of green way down at the bottom. This glacier had a couple of tunnels with snow pouring out - it was quite the sight to behold.
This whole area is just gorgeous. I can't wait to go explore the Marriot side, opposite Mt Rohr next visit. With endless ridges, it looks like there are weeks of adventuring to be had around here.
