Sneak Peek: Black Diamond Guide BT and Recon BT Transceivers - VIDEO
Black Diamond announced two new transceivers at Winter Outdoor Retailer in Denver this past January, the Guide BT and Recon BT. These transceivers will look awfully familiar to those familiar with the Pieps DSP Pro Transceiver which we reviewed here. Black Diamond has long distributed and sold Pieps transceivers and now they have their own branded versions.
The Black Diamond Guide BT will retail for $449US and have a 60 meter search range, while the Recon BT will cost you $359US and have a 50 meter range. Both transceivers have three antennas along with a few other cool features.
The big feature for both transceivers, however, is that they have built-in Bluetooth capabilities (what the BT acronym stands for) so you can update their firmware at any point without having to visit a local dealer or sending your transceiver in for a factory upgrade. Bluetooth is how the new Pieps Miro is updated, it works seamlessly with an app on your cell phone.
