Dynafit's new Hoji-designed Ridge Pro Boots are a game changer
When Fritz Barthel, inventor of the pin binding, and pro skier Eric "Hoji" Hjorleifson put their heads together, only brilliant concepts emerge. This developer duo already proved their talent with the Hoji Pro ski touring boot and the invention of the patented Hoji Lock System. With the new, versatile Ridge Pro Boot, they delivered the perfect fusion of speed mountaineer and free tourer in one boot. The revolutionary, patented Floating Tongue sets a new standard in climbing performance. Combined with a flex of 120 (110, women’s model), our tried-and-tested Hoji Lock System, and a construction using Grilamid with carbon fiber, the Ridge Pro Boot offers ideal rigidity and precision on the descent.
The heart of this new ski touring boot is the patented tongue construction, the “Floating Tongue.” As the name says, the tongue is not static but rather dynamically moves horizontally on the cuff. In contrast to traditional tongue construction, the “Floating Tongue” has two parts: One is an exterior tongue for stability when skiing, which also provides a seal, and the other is a soft tongue connected to it that sits completely inside the solid cuff. This intelligent construction enables a natural walking motion without pressure or friction. With the generous cuff rotation of 70 degrees, you are guaranteed a light, fast, energy-saving climb even on very steep terrain or when bootpacking. The boot can be adjusted quickly and precisely via an easily accessible adjustment dial. Visible on the exterior, the cables for the adjustment dial run once across the exterior tongue, but what you don’t see is that they also run across the flexible interior tongue. That allows you to achieve the ideal heel fit that offers sensational hold. With its three-dimensional volume adjustment, the boot can be customized to fit a variety of foot shapes perfectly. Whether you have a high or low instep, the Floating Tongue ensures long-lasting comfort down to the last climb.
For the liner, developers turned to the thermo-moldable Dynafitter 5 Line. It fits superbly right out of the box, has good insulation, and can also be customized as needed. For secure walking out of the binding, e.g., from ski storage to the summit or when bootpacking on steep terrain, the Ridge Pro Boot has a grippy Vibram outsole. The time-tested Master Step Insert provides easy, fast entry into the pin binding. As with all DYNAFIT ski touring boots, the Ridge Pro Boot is made in Italy’s Montebelluna.
