Rab launches “nutrition labels” for apparel and sleeping bags
Rab has long been one of our favourite outdoor brands given their quality products and relentless innovation. This fall Rab is launching “nutrition labels” for all apparel and sleeping bags. These hang tags will display the exact type and amounts of fabrics, recycled material, and treatments included with each product. These Material Facts will help increase sustainability and environmental awareness as consumers can immediately identify exactly what the Rab products are made of, there is no longer any guesswork required and no misleading claims of something being “recycled” when that is only a fraction of the truth. These new Material Facts tags will help clear up the confusion many of us often feel when trying to understand sustainability jargon and logos on outdoor products. From September 2023, Material Facts will be available for all Rab apparel and sleeping bags, accessible online by scanning a QR code on the product hangtag. You will be able to find out more detailed, easy-to-understand information on recycled content, fluorocarbon status and production information. This information will enable you to make your own educated choice, before buying Rab apparel or sleeping bag.
Rab was frustrated by a lack of clarity around sustainability criteria and so they created the pioneering Material Facts sustainability information tables to improve accuracy and transparency, as product director Tim Fish explains: “Communicating sustainability information is complex and means different things to different people, often leading to misleading claims and greenwashing. We’ve developed our non-branded Material Facts program to provide consumers with enough information to make their own educated purchasing decisions. The program leads the way by taking into account consumers’ and retailers’ demands for accurate and honest sustainability product claims.”
