Blogosphere aflutter -- New Dynafit BEAST bindings and more
Dynafit will be unveiling a number of new products at OR in Salt Lake City in a couple weeks. There are some funky looking skis on tap, but the real showstopper may be the BEAST 16 binding. It looks like Dynafit is trying to tap into the hard charging freeride market with this offering that is suitable for meat huckers and skiers looking for something with maximum beef. We here at backcountryskiingcanada are perfectly happy with the Radical STs for what we do (lift area and touring) but Dynafit is wise to recognize, and service, this growing market segment. If the Beast became Dyanfit's only binding available, we would weep. As it is, we are happy to see that they are increasing the range of binding types available to suit more skier profiles.Take a look at the video at wildsnow dot com to see what Dynafit expert, Lou Dawson, thinks of the bindings at this point. My takeway: It looks very easy to get into; I think the inability to have your boots flat on the ski in touring mode is a disadvantage; it's overkill for me and my milquetoast needs but it'll work well for lots of folks.
