Heads up display goggles - WTF?
So now you can supposedly purchase [or at least in another two weeks] goggle with a heads up display to show you :
- speed
- time
- altitute
-distance
-vertical
-location
-temperature
all this on the lens of your goggles as they are GPS enabled. Wasn't skiing about getting away from all of this technology and just enjoying the solitude of nature and your place in it? [ok who needs a hug?]

From what I have read here in BC, Recon Instruments is a Vancouver based company and has made the technology which has been integrated into a pair of Zeal frames (Zeal are based in Boulder).
I think these are great especially for tracking all those days in the backcountry. Plus, I always like to see innovations like this coming out of Canada!
Good point, it is good to see a little innovation coming out of the great white north - just not sure that a heads up display on goggles fits the backcountry - maybe more of a terrain park thing?
I imagine it would make you feel like Luke skywalker - just gotta focus on the turns and not the stats or Tree 01, skier 00.

This will be like a video game come to life and you are the main character - just gotta remember that when you huck-n-bail it's the real thing and it's gonna hurt. Wonder if you can download stats like the alti watches and graph out your stats on the laptop after? $500+ is outta' my range but maybe they will become main stream one day and fall to under $150?

So, I'm wondering, how many skiers/boarders are going to go tits up into a tree well at speed because they're trying to do two things at once?? I don't think I need that type of distraction when ripping the trees on Red or in the backcountry.
Anyway, isn't that why they invented the altimeter?? Now the Suunto vector or core.. those I covet!
