New Backcountry Ski Gear for 2013/14
The Backcountry Skiing Canada team was at the 2013 SIA show in Denver last February where we got a sneak peak at all the great new gear coming out for this season. Now that the season is almost upon us this new gear is starting to percolate into retail stores across North America.
We will be reviewing a handful of these new products but wanted to highlight a few of them that were not mentioned way back in February in our post entitled "Sneak Peak – New 2013/2014 Gear at SIA".
So here they are, Let us know your thoughts on what's hot and what's not.
The North Face's new 'Pro Down' does away with the one negative of down—the fact that it does not play well with water.
TNF's Thermo Ball is also new this season and is a synthetic insulation that works pretty similar to down, only it keeps you warm when wet. We have already started testing this piece and the review will be up soon so keep an eye out for that.
Hestra's New Ergo Grip Outdry Long Glove looks like a killer glove for backcountry skiing.
There's more parts to a Hestra Glove than one would think.
The big news out of Marker this season is that they will have a huge new line-up of helmets and goggles. Keep a look out for a review of the Marker Ampire Helmet and Projector Goggle this winter from our review staff.
The coolest feature has got to be the magnetic clasp system – slick.
Their goggle range is just as big as the helmet range.
Patagonia goes old school with the colour palette of their new shells.
Swix gets into the backcountry game with their new light weight adjustable ski poles.
And finally some new products from our friends at Volkl. This one is my personal favourite, the Voile Katana V Werks skis. Below that you'll see the Volkl Nunataq Skis with new top sheet graphics. This ski won our gear of the Year in 2012, have a read of that review over here.
