Next Years Fischer Trans Alp AT Boots - OR Sneak Peek
Two of the highlights at this years Outdoor Retailer show were the the Fischer Trans Alp AT Boots and Fischer Hannibal Ski line up. Both these products are backcountry specific and their minimal weights and high tech designs prove this.
The Fischer Trans Alp AT Boots come in a TS version which weigh in at 1620g or the TS Lite version at 1550g. Both of these boots come with Fischer's famous Vacuum Fit Technology, tech fittings and 60° cuff rotation for a super easy walk mode. With only three buckles, semi overlap construction and minimal weight the Trans Alp boots sure look like ski touring machines.
On the ski side the Fishcer Hannibal Skis will be available (next season) in a 94mm and 100mm at the waist, weighing in at 1250g and 1500g respectively. They will also offer the Transalp skis at 88mm underfoot (1150g) and he AlpRoute at 82mm underfoot and 1250g. If you are into rando racing then they also have the AlpAttack at a mere 650g but these look more like a cross country ski given their 99/61/81 dimensions.
All of these backcountry specific skis utilize Fischer's Aeroshape design which optimizes the skis mass by essentially removing the top corner edges and rounding out the ski form. This provides a streamlined shape and reduces weight while still providing good torsional control. The Fischer Hannibal 100 (my personal choice of the mix) comes in at 131/100/117 with a 23m radius and is available in lengths of 170, 180 and 190. All of the Fischer skis mentioned above use a Paulownia wood core and sandwich sidewall construction with of course the Aeroshape technology. Fischer was able to further reduce the weight of these skis by shaving out some of the Paulownia wood core as you can see below.
So, as you can see Fischer has entered the backcountry ski touring market in a big, big way. We are looking forward to getting our hands on a Fischer set up for review for you early next season – stay tuned!
