Vipec
Did anyone around get any hands-on experience with the Vipecs?Lou Dawson has lots of info on the Vipec as well as a ton of comments and questions/answers from various people:
I don’t think Lou spent very much time on the binding to make a firm opinion. That’s why I am asking if anyone else skied them.
Other than the broken pin, which I hope they will fix by the time of next season's batch, I have other concerns regarding the functionality of plastic parts over extended periods (like the ski/walk heel lever for example – would that hold the binding into position after a year?).
Leaving the concerns apart, the design is very appealing to me.
Next fall I have to acquire two pairs of tech bindings. So what would those be: Dynafit (the safe choice), Ion (to match my new G3 skis :P), or Vipec (the binding I want, but I’m not sure about it yet…)?
We shot this video of the Vipec at the winter Outdoor Retailer show at the end of January, hopefully this helps?
I have been skiing them for a month now.

I recomend them
Thanks guys!
Great review Blake. That’s what I needed to hear.
Ion by G3 would be very similar with Dynafit (heel release, no toe elasticity).
I saw the Ions in Nelson. You are right, the toe will only release if the heal does first.
Go with the vipec.
You could buy your set at MEC. They have a rocksolid warranty. If the bindings break or are not up to the hype, you can return them.
I bought a set of Beasts from MEC. Lots of money but I knew if they turned out to be not good I had the option to return them. They actually worked well for me.
I also bought a pair of G3 skis a few years back from MEC. Those skis really sucked and I ended up returning them (and G3 discontinued them the next year).
Good service there, especially from the service center (phone and mail returns). I would not hesitate to buy the Vipecs from there with that warranty.
Just returning from MEC. I was able to step in from the first try (trick here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....jh6O_bhVk).
I will definitely buy two pairs next fall. I hope they will replace the troubling pin with a fixed one for the following generation.
What about the new 2015 Beast 14? Looks to me like this one might be a good option for and elastic release touring binding.
Anyone have any deets on this new binding from dynafit?
