In an honest and revealing interview with The Avalanche Hour Podcast, Banff-based badass and legend, ACMG Ski Guide Kevin Hjertaas, talks about his personal journey from professional big mountain skier to local ski patroller to Ski Guide.  He offers a raw and vulnerable portrayal of his mental health struggles and ongoing path to recovery following an avalanche fatality he was involved in last year:
 
During a recreational, non-guided ski day on January 10, 2020, Hjertaas, Bow Valley athlete Adam Campbell, and Campbell’s wife Dr. Laura Kosakoski were backcountry skiing in the Mt. Hector area of Banff National Park when an avalanche occurred, resulting in the burial and eventual death of Kosakoski.
 
As part of the aftermath of the tragedy, Hjertaas talks about how therapy has helped him heal, and he calls on more awareness, conversations, and resources for those who are affected by trauma in the mountains.
