PROPOSED YEAR-ROUND RESORT NEAR CHILLIWACK
Amidst a growing pool of ambitious resort plans and various locally debated tenure applications, another idea has recently been put forward also. Backed by a mountain resort planning and design firm from Whistler, two BC residents have filed an expression of interest to build a large-scale all-season resort just South of Fraser River, near Chilliwack.
The idea behind Bridal Vail Mountain Resort (BVMR) is creating a vehicle-free mountain experience, where visitors travel up from the valley bottom via gondola into the resort. The plan involves year-round activity, including hiking, sightseeing, skiing/snowboarding, biking, and various cultural programs. Resort terrain could cover as much as 11,500 acres and bring in more than $250 million in yearly revenue.
The proposed project does encroach on traditional and unceded indigenous lands, although consultations with First Nations communities are underway.
