New Bugaboo to Rogers Traverse speed record
A new speed record has been set on the iconic Bugaboo to Rogers Ski Traverse of just 44 hours and 37 minutes by Kylee Toth, Emma Cook-Clarke and Taylor Sullivan. The Bugaboo To Rogers Pass Ski Traverse is a famous route in Eastern BC and one of the most well known along with the Wapta, Bow-Yoho, Spearhead and even the Bonington Traverse. The Bugaboo To Rogers Pass Traverse is a challenging 135-kilometre ski along avalanche-prone slopes and is heavily glaciated so it is not for the faint at heart. Kylee Toth said, “Both mental and physical. Being up for so many hours weighs on you in both regards.”
The route was pioneered by Bill Briggs, Barry Corbet, Sterling Neale, and Bob French in June 1958. In 2021, Greg Hill, Adam Campbell and Andrew McNab completed the traverse in 53.2 hours and held the previous record. Before that, Troy Jungen, Douglas Sproul and Jon Walsh held the record for an impressive 16 years with a time of 80 hours.
“It is important to me to see women try big, hard and intimidating things not to prove anything to men but so that the next generation of female light and fast athletes realize they have a proverbial, seat at the table" said Kylee Toth.
Congrats to the group for pushing the limits of what is possible, it is no small achievement.
