First descent of Canyon on West Face of Mt. Robson
Canyoning, or canyoneering, is slowly becoming more mainstream here in North America. It should be no surprise then that folks have started pushing this sport into more extreme terrain, and it just so happens that a few individuals have taken the sport to the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies.
Image courtesy of mountainculturegroup.com.The crew, consisting of 5 individuals, Katie Graham, Guillaume Coupier, Greg Horne, Matt Kennedy, and Colin Magee, completed a series of 51 rappels to complete the first descent of a prominent canyon on the West face of Mt. Robson. The feat is as impressive as it is dangerous but in the words of Katie Graham “by allowing myself to be in a vulnerable situation, I’ve accessed something uniquely beautiful”.
