Women Can Climb As Hard As Men
Of the world’s top 100 sport climbers (determined by hardest send), four are females: Margo Hayes, Anak Verhoeven, Angy Eiter, and Julia Charnoudie. Each of them has redpointed 5.15a or harder. That might not seem like many, but when compared to other sports like the 100-metre dash and marathons, suddenly those four sound like a lot.Outside draws on evolutionary theory to suggest that unlike more conventional, male-invented sports that favour men, climbing advantages women equally. As more women push the boundaries of climbing, the gender and performance gaps narrow and we should be seeing a lot more women at the crag, getting after it.
