HOW THE RIGHT WARM-UP WILL HELP YOUR CLIMBING GAME
Of the 100 or so days I spend on snow in a winter season, I’d say about 10% of those days involve some kind of stretching scenario after. And that would be a generous 10%. If you ask me about warm-up times, I will probably laugh — as that number is a big zero. I don’t know when I learned that it was acceptable to be relentlessly absorbing impact with my legs and flinging my meat off of jumps every day without taking the time to treat my stiff, sore and beaten body afterwards. The same applies for my obvious disregard towards having a warm-up practice, even though its benefits have been backed by science for ages.
But, I’m glad to see it’s not just me that is lacking in the self-discipline, and that this dilemma plagues athletes across many seasons and sports. Check out this interesting read from Climbing Mag that discusses key warm-up stages for climbers, how it will benefit their sport, and how-to tips for people like myself to incorporate these warm-ups into their daily routine.
